Tin Tin in Tibet

Description

This was the Daily Sketch Challenge for monday, and while I couldn't get to it then, I had to give a nod the the great one, Hergé.  I've loved Tin Tin since I was a kid, and I feel a special connection to this story, having brought it with me to the Tibetan communities in India way back in '98.   I wasn't sure how they would react to Hergé's somewhat romanticized depiction of the Land of Snows, but it turned out the Tibetans knoew about this comic and *adored* it.  Most exiles at the time had never even beemn to their native land, and Hergé's meticulously visually researched story was a powerful connection to that which they had lost.  My copy quickly ceased to be mine, as my little host sisters simply couldn't live without it, and when I later traveled in Tibet itself, I marveled at how well Hergé, who never visited there himself, was able to capture to the look and feel of the place.  What was a matter of craft for him became a powerful emotional connection through art for a troubled community, in a way that he probably was never aware of.  A very inspiring story for comikers, I've always thought.  Anyway, in deference to the master, I stuck to flat colors, something I've never tried.  The lines are brush pen on paper, something I stubbornly refuse to accept that I'm no good at.  :)

Absolutely amazing story.
